Hey Reader! 👋

A couple of quick pieces of housekeeping before we jump into things.

  1. 🤖 I have a brand new Notion template that will generate all of your show notes for you. It's only £5 and I'd love for you to check it out.
  2. 🔴 In case you missed it, I have a new email course all about recording for podcasts. It's 4 short emails over 4 days and covers everything from proper technique to different recording setups. Did I mention it's free? It is. There's no upsells, funnels, segments, or anything else other than 4 free emails. If you're interested, just hit this link and you'll start getting those emails straight away.

As always you can email me at any time with your podcasting questions - just hit reply to this one and let me know!

Now, let's talk consistency in podcasting.

Consistency is the Key to Podcasting

Whenever I’m working with a client to help launch their podcast one of the inevitable questions is “what’s the best day to release episodes?

It comes from a place of wanting to make sure that the launch goes smoothly along with a fear that getting it wrong will leave them on the back foot.

There’s also a belief that if there’s a quieter release day in the podcast world then that can be capitalised on to maximise listenership (spoiler: there isn’t).

My response to the question is always the same;

Release episodes on the same day and to the same cadence that works for you.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or any other of day the week, just be consistent from the start and you’ll have set the expectation to listeners going forward.

The release cadence doesn’t have to be every week either. It can be every fortnight, or the same date every month, twice a week, the first and last Friday of the month, or any other schedule that you define. The key is to stick to it.

If you’re just starting out, you get to set the expectation from the outset that this is how the podcast is going to run. You’re telling your audience “these are the days you’ll get more episodes, and I’m going to stick to that”. They appreciate it because they can anticipate it.

I might advise new podcasters to make sure that their launch and first run of episodes is at an achievable cadence—the last thing you’ll want to do is end up with podfade—and then if things are going well, and if it feels good to do so, you can you start changing the release cadence.

It’s also ok if you feel like you’re struggling to keep up with the release schedule you’ve set. The wonderful thing about podcasting is that you are literally able to talk your listeners to tell them about changes. A short announcement at the start of an episode is both easy to make and goes right to the people that you’re trying to reach.

💡 Remember, make your release cadence achievable and consistency will follow

That's all for today.

Happy podcasting!
Alex ✌️

Hey Reader! 👋 Let me introduce you to a system for podcasting that works. It’s one that I'm sure will help you no matter where you are in your podcasting journey, whether you're just starting out or are 100 episodes in. It’s called SCEME and it's an acronym for; Start small Consistency Evaluate Make changes Evolve Think of each of these as a phase to work through that will get the flywheel of your podcast turning. It’s a cyclical process that doesn’t end and keeps you moving from one phase to...
